It was black Tuesday in Edo State as unknown gunmen in Afuze town; Owan East local government area of state killed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), a pregnant policewoman and another policewoman.
The victims were killed by the gunmen who stormed the police station in a vehicle at about 7pm.
They also attacked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office destroying electoral materials and set ablaze police vehicle parked in the premises.
The officers killed in the attack are Inspector Tosimani Ojo, the DPO of the station, Sergeant Justina Aghomon a pregnant woman, Inspector Sado Isaac and Corporal Glory David.
An eyewitness, Mr Godwin Ikpekhia said the incident occurred at about 8:pm on Tuesday night when many of the officers of the division had gone for outside duty.
“We only heard gun shoot and nobody knows what happened until this morning. The divisional police officer with three other officers who were on duty was killed on the spot inside the building,” he said.
The Edo State commissioner of Police, Mr Muhammed Danmallam who visited the scene of the incident said that investigation would commence immediately. He vowed that those behind the gruesome murder will be apprehended and brought book.
“Urgent steps will be taken to curb the increasing cases of criminality in Owan axis of the state.
It would be recalled that on the 14th of July 2018, police officers were attacked at a check point in the area, and their bodies set ablaze inside their patrol Hilux van by suspected drug dealers.
